Okanogan Expansion
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Eastern Washington Affiliate received notice from its national headquarters on November 24th that it may expand its service offering to residents in Okanogan County, Washington. "I extend our appreciation for the tremendous amount of work and research that went into the expansion application," said Diana Rowden, Vice President, Affiliate Network for Komen national headquarters, in the letter she sent to the Affiliate announcing the decision. The Komen Eastern Washington Affiliate made application for the expansion this past summer by submitting a 21 page report detailing the need for Komen services in Okanogan County. "There is a large, under-served area in Okanogan County," said Affiliate board president, Mary Giannini. "With the Colville Indian Reservation and a number of isolated communities so close to Spokane, we felt a strong obligation to expand our territory to the north and begin offering services there." The next-nearest Komen affiliates are based in Seattle, Washington, and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
