Funding Priorities

A minimum of 25 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race supports the national Komen for the Cure Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world.

Up to 75 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race stays in the local community to fund breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment projects.

Brief Summary of Priorities

Drawing from the profile, the Eastern Washington Affiliate has identified the following small grant funding priorities:

1.    Increase screening and comprehensive follow-up services among Native Americans, Hispanic-Latinos, African Americans, and English as second language populations.

2.    Reduce barriers to obtaining screening and comprehensive breast health services, including fear, cultural incongruence, financial, transportation, and childcare, particularly among those living in rural areas and among, Native Americans, Hispanic-Latinos, African Americans, English as second language populations, and uninsured and under-insured populations.
