Teams

YOUR TEAM, YOUR IMPACT

Participating in the Susan G. Komen Eastern Washington Affiliate Race for the Cure® with a team multiplies the fun, the laughter and maybe even the tears that you share on Race Day. Rally around someone you know who was just diagnosed, someone who has fought the battle, or someone who may have lost the battle. Together, with your friends, family and co-workers, you make an even greater impact than you could alone.

Form a Team    Join a Team

The Team Captain must register first and create the team before team members can join the team. A team is comprised of 10 or more individuals. An individual has the opportunity to participate in the following team types: Friends & Family, Corporate and Businesses or Schools.  Below is a guide to choosing which team type is best for you.

When considering what type of team to form, participants should ask themselves three questions:
1. Would I like to form a team incorporating friends, family and survivors?
2. Would I like to form a team involving my co-workers with the possibility of asking my employer to be the team sponsor.
3. Am I part of a school that would like to be represented in the Race as a team.

Regardless, all teams have the opportunity to set goals for fundraising and participate in team competitions.

NEW FOR 2012!

The number one reason people in your life don't donate to causes they believe in?? THEY'RE NOT ASKED!
Top Ten fundraising teams that raise a minimum of $5,000 are eligible to win a fabulous pink tent at the start/finish area on Race Day. This is a great way for your team to gather at the "Winner's Circle" on Race Day and celebrate all your hard work! We are looking forward to the "fierce" competition for these tents and hope all teams will take on the challenge!

Team Choices

Friends & Family teams are formed to celebrate, honor and remember family members and/or friends that have been touched by Breast Cancer or for those who simply want to advocate education and awareness.  Friends and Family teams generally participate individually toward a team fundraising goal, and often walk the race as a group and finish together.   These teams often wear a team t-shirt (see page 6 of the Team Captain Handbook) that they have designed for their team. Click here to learn more about setting up a Friends & Family Team.

A Corporate/Business team consists of members from your workplace and can be any type of small business or large corporation.  Corporate/Business teams can still race in honor of their loved ones, but they also have the opportunity of being sponsored by their place of business, whether it be partial or full sponsorship, or matching funds.  Corporate/Business teams often participate in the Race together, wearing company t-shirts (see page 6 of the Team Captain Handbook) or holding signs recognizing their company. Click here to learn more about setting up a Corporate /Business team.

School teams are similar to both of our other categories of teams. They are similar to Friends & Family teams in that they are formed to celebrate, honor and remember family members and friends that have been touched by Breast Cancer. They are also similar to Corporate/Business teams in that they would generally participate in the race as a group wearing their own t-shirts (see page 6 of the Team Captain Handbook) and maybe holding signs recognizing their school. A school could be anything from a grade school to a university . Schools would fundraise individually toward a team goal. Click here to learn more about setting up a Schools Team.

Web page you automatically receive

Fundraising is Easy with Online Tools!

hWhen you register for the Race, you automatically receive your own fundraising web site.  Teams, however, receive an additional Team Website that the entire team can utilize.  The Team Captain has access to make changes to the Teams Website, but all team members can help to personalize it by giving the captain information to post (team stories, photos, etc.).  Your Team page is a website that friends and family can visit to find a team member or to give a donation that supports the fundraising efforts of the entire team.  Use it to tell friends and family why you formed a team to participate in the Race for the Cure and to assist them with making donations online.  To make your page more dynamic, upload a link to a video clip or activate the blog feature.  All of this and more is waiting for your team once you register for the Race!  Team fundraising for the Race is easy with online tools!
